Volunteering among patients to normalise ostomies

People who wear ostomy bags help other patients like them to face this medical problem. It is a volunteering programme promoted by nurses from the Digestive Surgery Unit of the Malaga Regional Hospital. 12 people have received training to work as volunteers and have achieved to make other patients give less importance to ostomies and accept them as normal.

House of Words: books to heal the wounds of refugee children

Casa de Palabras’ or ‘House of Words’ in a project of the Libera Collective that counts on the collaboration of seven Sevilian book shops. Their goal is to promote the creation of libraries for refugee children in Greece through the donation of books for kids. People can also collaborate through donations or buying books in the participating book shops, which will be sent to Greece. The Libera Collective has already sent the first shipment and collaborates with other entities in Greece to boost the activity of the libraries.

The effort of an Ultraman athlete to create a unique space for hospitalized children

Juanma Gutiérrez is one of the 40 sportsman from all over the world, and the first Andalusian, who competed in the Ultraman World Championship 2016. What motivated him was not only his passion for this sport, but also his desire to raise awareness about a good cause: ‘El jardín de los sueños’ (or ‘The garden of dreams’). It is a space promoted by the ALES Association and that has been built within the Maternity and Child Hospital of Jaén, where hospitalized children can play. It is the first hospital recreation room in Spain that combines open air and covered spaces, what allows children to use it all year round.

Swimming as a tool to achieve full integration of people with disabilities

Swimming to promote integration. Juan José Polo, from Seville, studies Physical Education and loves swimming. He wanted people with and without disabilities to train together, so they could compete in the same level. That’s how the Al-Andalus Sevilla Sports Club was created in 2015. Its members have already won several medals. There’re no barriers for this club that has opened its doors to integration.
