This is why researchers of the Institute of Natural Resources and Agrobiology of Seville have counted on the collaboration of the University of Huelva to develop a device test the quality of compost before applying it over a crop. It is an electronic nose that uses smell to detect chemical and biological processes developed in a natural compost sample to make sure that it is mature enough to be employed.
