José Luis Guzmán, Automatic Engineering to make people’s lives simpler

José Luis Guzmán, born in Almería, studied Computer and Systems Engineering in the University of his city; however, collaborating with the Automatics Department changed his life. Building mini-robots made him realise that his professional future could be there and, since then, he has focused his research on finding ways to make people’s lives simpler. The Royal Academy of Engineering awarded him the medal to the Best Young Researcher in 2016. This was recognition to his good work in the automatic process control field, in which he is an expert. José Luis Guzmán applies it to clean energies such as solar energy, or the production of biodiesel or biomass with microalgae. Teaching is also a part of his work. He transfers complex math concepts to digital tools that make them easier to understand for students. He is the co-author of over 250 articles published in scientific magazines and scientific lectures. In addition, he is a member of the Automatics Spanish Committee.
